Frequently asked questions
The most common questions we get from our clients
Your spray tan is a team effort! Achieving a flawless, golden glow that lasts and fades evenly is something we accomplish together! Prepping your skin is the key to getting the best spray results.
Two Days Before Your Spray Tan:
Take care of any beauty treatments like waxing, sugaring, manicures, pedicures, or lash extensions. These should be done at least 24 hours before your spray tan—48 hours is even better.
The Day Before Your Spray Tan:
Take a shower and exfoliate thoroughly with an oil-free scrub or, ideally, an exfoliating mitt (highly recommended—it will be a game-changer!). Focus on dry areas like hands, feet, elbows, and knees. This step is crucial for removing buildup, body oils, and dead skin cells, ensuring the DHA in the spray tan solution can fully react with the amino acids in your skin. Barriers left on the skin will prevent your tan from fully developing.
Things to Avoid:
Bar soaps, Dove, Olay, and Pantene products before and after tanning, as they can create a barrier on your skin and affect your tans results. Ingredients matter! Showering right before your appointment. The heat and moisture can interfere with the tan, and the solution may settle into your pores, causing an unintended freckled look.
If you must shower the day of your tan:
Do it at least 4 hours prior, using cooler water only. Avoid soap, shaving cream, or exfoliating products.
Keep It Simple!
We guarantee NO orange with any of our tans—ever!
Every formula is custom-blended to match your skin's unique undertones, ensuring a smooth, flawless color every time.
For most events, we recommend tanning 2 days before to allow the color to fully develop and settle. For brides or larger events, 2-3 days before is ideal. For vacations, tan the day before you leave for the best long-lasting results.
Before Your Appointment
Plan ahead! Decide what you'll be wearing during your spray tan appointment. Remember, this appointment is all about you, so wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.
What to Wear During
Most clients opt for a bikini or undergarments. We also provide disposable undergarments as an option! Women (18 years and older) may choose to tan nude or topless, depending on their comfort level, while those under 18 must wear both a top and bottom covering. You’ll also want to tie your hair up, and a hairnet will be provided to keep the solution out of your hair. Men are required (by law) to keep their private area covered at all times. Nude tanning is not permitted for men at Bronzed XO, but boxers, briefs, or even a thong are acceptable to minimize tan lines
What to Wear After
Even though your skin will feel dry after your spray tan, it's crucial to avoid tightfitting clothing. Stay away from leggings, biker shorts, jeans, or sports bras. opt for darker, loose-fitting clothing to prevent the bronzer from shifting on your skin.
You should wait 8-12 hours before showering to allow the tan to fully develop. Some solutions may have a Rapid option that allow for a shorter development time of 1-4 hours. When you do shower, rinse with lukewarm water only—no soap, hot water, or exfoliating products during the first rinse. You will leave you appointment with all of your post tan instructions!
To prolong the life of your spray tan:
- Moisturize daily with an oil-free lotion to keep your skin hydrated.
- Avoid exfoliating or using products with harsh chemicals.
- Pat dry after showering instead of rubbing.
- Stay away from chlorine, as it can strip your tan. If your skin feels dry, we recommend an oil free moisturizer
Yes, you can safely spray tan while pregnant. The active ingredient, DHA (dihydroxyacetone), in sunless tanning products only interacts with the top layer of the skin and is not absorbed into the bloodstream. However, as a precaution, always consult with your doctor before tanning during pregnancy, and consider doing a patch test to ensure no skin sensitivity.
No, a spray tan does not offer protection from UV rays. The color from a spray tan comes from the reaction of DHA with your skin, which does not block the sun. Be sure to use sunscreen with SPF when going outdoors to prevent sunburn, as your skin will still be vulnerable to sun damage
Yes, people with sensitive skin can get a spray tan, but it’s essential to use a highquality solution made with natural or ingredients, like what we offer at Bronzed XO. Doing a patch test 24 hours before your appointment can help you ensure there are no adverse reactions.
A spray tan typically lasts 5-10 days, depending on your skin type, preparation, and aftercare. Factors like proper exfoliation before your tan and moisturizing daily can extend its life. Dry skin tends to shed more quickly, causing the tan to fade faster, while oily skin can retain the tan a bit longer.
