PRE-TAN CARE
Prep Instructions:
- To prepare for your spray tan, please shower, shave, and exfoliate 12-24 hours before your appointment. A gel-based body wash works best—avoid using Dove, as it can affect how the solution sets on your skin. Shaving or showering too close to your appointment may alter how your skin absorbs the spray tan. For exfoliation, we recommend using exfoliating mitts for the best results.
- If you plan to get a wax, massage, or pedicure, make sure these are done at least 48 hours before your spray tan. This gives any oils or products time to fully wash off your skin. Avoid using retinol products in the week leading up to your appointment. On the day of your tan, please arrive with clean, product-free skin. This means no jewelry, lotions, deodorant, makeup, oils, or perfumes.
- Sunburn policy: If you arrive with a fresh sunburn, I will unfortunately have to refuse service. I cannot spray tan clients with a sunburn, and this is non-negotiable. You must wait at least 3 weeks after a peeling sunburn to get a spray tan. Failing to wait will result in an uneven and blotchy tan.
POST TAN
Post Spray Tan Instructions:
- After your spray tan, it's important to avoid water exposure until your designated rinse time. This includes activities like sweating, swimming, showering. We'll provide you with the exact time for your first rinse during your appointment.
- Please refrain from applying makeup, oils, lotions, deodorants, or perfume until after your initial rinse.
- If you have pets, be sure to keep them from licking your skin while your tan develops. To prevent staining your palms, try to minimize direct contact between your palms and your skin while your tan sets.
- When it's time for your first rinse, avoid using soap—just a water rinse is recommended. If necessary, you can gently wash your underarms and private areas, but use as little soap as possible. Aim for a quick, efficient rinse. If you notice any streaks afterward, simply get back in the shower and use your hand to remove any excess bronzer.
- Pat your skin dry with a towel, and remember: the more water exposure, the faster your tan will fade. Use lukewarm water for your first rinse to help prolong the life of your tan.
DAY OF YOUR SPRAY TAN SESSION
It’s your spray tan day! Here’s what you need to do:
Ensure you’ve followed all pre-tan care instructions.
Wear loose, dark clothing to your appointment—ideally a long-sleeve top, loose-fitting bottoms like sweatpants, and open-toed sandals or slides. The bronzer may transfer to your clothes, but it’s water-soluble and should wash out easily. After your session, avoid tight clothing, including bras, shorts, tank tops, socks, and tennis shoes, to allow your tan to develop evenly.
Sleeping the Night of Your Appointment: To protect your tan, wear loose-fitting clothing that covers your legs, arms, and torso. Avoid skin-to-skin contact, such as tucking your hands by your face or resting them on your body, as this can cause sweating and moisture, which may lead to uneven tan development.
TAN MAINTENACE
Making your tan last longer:
Take short showers and moisturize daily using a natural lotion. Avoid products containing mineral oil or strong fragrances, such as those from Bath & Body Works or Victoria's Secret, as they can cause your tan to fade more quickly. Hempz is my go-to for both body wash and daily moisturizer!
Be aware that certain activities can make your tan fade faster, including exposure to chlorine, salt water, long hot showers or baths, saunas, and excessive sweating.
